Excellent Japanese underground Fusion with symphonic underlines, some great atmospheric moments and plenty of technical exhibitions. No less than highly recommended. 35 years after their debut album "Tri Logic" released in 1987, and after the release of their self-recorded cover album "Journey to Babel" in 2008, the current members of the band, led by former Aqua Police drummer Ichiro Takezako, have joined forces with Prism's Cher Watanabe on keys, Hirofumi Mitoma of Mongolian on guitar, and Yoshiyuki Sakurai of HAL/Shingetsu on bass. The four members of Noa, a treasure of the progressive jazz-rock world, are led by Ichiro Takezako, former drummer of Aquapolis, Chel Watanabe (Key) of Prism, Hirofumi Mitoma (Guitar) of Mongolia, and Yoshiyuki Sakurai (Bass), who played in HAL/Shingetsu.

NOA was an Japanese jazz rock trio featuring Hirofumi MITOMA, Takao OHZEKI and Ichiro TAKESAKO. They released their only album in the late 80's with similarities to works of Bill BRUFORD and the sound of KING CRIMSON in those times.
Milton Keanes, pianist for the British trio Jazz Sabbath, first emerged in early 2020 claiming that his group's lost 1960s album had been plagiarized by heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath. In truth, Keanes is the alias of Adam Wakeman, longtime keyboardist for Ozzy Osbourne, and he came up with the idea for his fictional jazz combo while on a tour with Black Sabbath. The project's self-titled debut, a collection of Black Sabbath songs arranged for a jazz piano trio, appeared in 2020. Two more releases followed -- 2022's Jazz Sabbath, Vol. 2 and 2024's The 1968 Tapes -- which, like the band's debut, were presented as "lost albums." In 2013, Adam Wakeman -- son of legendary Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman -- was on a European tour supplying the off-stage keyboard parts for metal icons Black Sabbath. During a night off in Berlin, he was challenged by another Sabbath staffer to try and play the band's set on a piano in the hotel bar. Wakeman's solo piano improvisations around classic tunes like "Fairies Wear Boots," "Changes," and "Iron Man" planted the seed of Jazz Sabbath, a band whose colorful -- and entirely fictional -- backstory he fleshed out over the next several years. Along with similarly pseudonymous bassist Jacque T'fono (Jerry Meehan) and drummer Juan Také (Ash Soan), the newly christened Milton Keanes appeared in a 2020 mockumentary claiming to be the original authors of Black Sabbath's best-known songs, which had been cruelly plagiarized from their canceled late-'60s debut album. This provided the clever PR ruse for Jazz Sabbath's self-titled debut LP, which arrived on Blacklake Records in April of that year. The group's inventive jazz arrangements of Sabbath classics fared well on the jazz charts and were successful enough to warrant a second volume in 2022. In addition to their studio work, Jazz Sabbath also began touring as a live act, playing throughout the U.K. and Europe while arranging a third "lost album." Released in 2024, The 1968 Tapes continued to foster their self-mythology and featured piano trio arrangements of classics like "War Pigs," "The Wizard," and "Into the Void."
An all-star band founded by producer Creed Taylor (CTI Records) in 1980. The original band (featuring Will Lee, Ronnie Foster, Jeremy Wall and Ndugu) did a sold-out tour in Japan, where their debut album sold over 150,000 copies and yielded the hit "Double Steal." The second incarnation recorded the acclaimed Silk album in 1981, featuring George Benson, Eric Gale, Stanley Turrentine, Wynton Marsalis, Tom Browne, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Sammy Figueroa, Dave Valentin. The third and last Fuse One project, Ice, recorded in 1984, included John Tropea, Larry Coryell, Steve Gadd, Dave Matthews (3), George Young, Ronnie Cuber, Cliff Carter, Will Lee et al.
Orchestra Futura is a unique trio of musicians, assembled by legendary guitarist and songwriter/producer Bill Nelson. Along with Be Bop Deluxe guitarist Nelson is sax/flute player Theo Travis (Soft Machine/Steven Wilson) and bassist Dave Sturt (Gong/Jade Warrior) The group performed at various 'Nelsonica' conventions between 2006 and 2012 and a few other select performances but this is the first recorded release by the group. The music is a collection of atmospheric improvisations, hypnotic looped alto flutes, fretless bass grooves, experimental electronic music, and all topped with Bill Nelson's extraordinary guitar playing. Undoubtedly a musically ambitious set, wide ranging, instrumental based and without boundaries.
Kennedy of of the lesser known prog bands from Japan , almost totaly unknown outside their country until Musea re released the second album selftitled from 1988 on CD in 1999. With this re issue the band gain some recognition world wide but they didn't expect to something grandious, only prog collectors heared of them anyway. This second album was a really nice surprise for me, knowing this album for couple of years, I decided now to give some proper listning before come with a review. Very good album, very up tempo, jazz meets prog meets improvisations in some parts, quite good . The band is made from 4 musicians, Kohji Itoh who is responsable as the booklet of the CD said of possible and impossinle sax arrangements, great remind me in places of King Crimson, Juju Kitaoka on keybords, who done some fantastic job here, his keybords is not sounding at all like most of the bands from prog had in that period, plastic and with many digitaly elements, Takasi Yasuda e very very good drumer, he has some most intrsting chops I've heared on a prog band from Japan, very strong and confident on his abilities as musician and last but not least Izumi who's guitar has some very intristing and very well performe parts with jazzy leanings an combined with the keybords is top notch

This debut album by drummer and actor mitsuaki katayama is a japanese jazz masterpiece, put out by johnny’s disk record—an independent jazz label run by the owner of jazz cafe kaiunbashi no johnny located in rikuzentakata city.
consisting of 5 original compositions, the no-filler album includes the tracks “unknown point,” a danceable jazz samba with tight and powerful drumming; the melancholic “arizona high way,” a tune that perfectly epitomizes what japanese jazz is about; “it’s over,” which features beautiful piano work by kichiro sugino—a promising pianist who tragically succumbed to a chronic illness and couldn’t fully realize his potential; “louis” and “first flight,” a jazzy dance cut with a funky bassline.
THANKS SO MUCH TO AVGFOTS - JW FOR THIS, APPRECIATE IT.

The music on this album is a technical and emotional journey that deserves an aesthetic to match its virtuosity. The level of the compositions, which fuse the melancholic elegance of Buenos Aires with the rhythmic aggressiveness of New York jazz-fusion, demands that the cover is not a mere decoration, but a declaration of principles.
"The cover of 'From Buenos Aires to New York' must be a visual bridge between two worlds. Given the complexity of the fretless bass and analogue synthesizers, the proposed minimalist design – with its graphite background and precise technical lines – is a total success. It manages to encapsulate the sophistication of Serú Girán and the cosmopolitan coldness of the Big Apple. The legend located millimetrically on the edge symbolizes that tension between the technical order and free improvisation. It is a cover that does not need stridency because the sound content is already monumental; The image whispers what the album screams: avant-garde, journey and perfection...

BREAKDOWN OF EACH SONG...
1. Beneath the Midnight Glow Contemporary mid-tempo jazz (Andante). It features a harmony of extended chords that evoke urban sophistication.
Its piano melody is lympic and , inspiring an introspective calm. The rhythm is constant, with a bass that walks confidently.
It is reminiscent of the elegance of Bob James. It is a technical but very accessible piece that defines the tone of the album.
2. Celestial Currents Jazz Fusion with New Age tinges. The tempo is leisurely, allowing the guitar melody to breathe over an ethereal harmony.
It inspires a sense of constant flow and spatial freedom. The execution is subtle, with a masterful use of dynamics.
It resembles Pat Metheny's atmospheric style at its most melodic. An organic and enveloping composition.
3. Celestial Groove We enter the field of Jazz-Funk. With a livelier and more rhythmic tempo, it stands out for a highly syncopated bass that dictates the groove.
The harmony is brighter and the melody playful. Inspires movement and positive energy. It evokes the sound of groups such as Cassiopeia or Mezzoforte.
The production highlights the punch of the drums, achieving a vibrant and modern impact.
4. Chasing the Horizon Jazz Fusion of a narrative nature. Its tempo is agile, suggesting progress and search. The melody is heroic and is supported by a harmony
that subtly changes colors. It inspires optimism and adventure. It is reminiscent of the Chick Corea Elektric Band for its technical precision and well-defined structure.
It is a song of great emotional impact thanks to its final crescendo.
5. Dreamtime Cascade A contemporary jazz ballad with slow tempo (Adagio). The harmony is dense yet soft, creating a cushion for a
crystalline piano melody that seems to fall like water. It inspires peace and deep reverie. It approaches the modernized Bill Evans style.
The execution stands out for its sensitivity to touch, achieving a cinematic and extremely relaxing atmosphere.
6. Echoes of Tomorrow Nu-Jazz with a modern structure. The tempo is moderate with a very marked groove. The melody intertwines piano and synthesizers
over a futuristic harmony. It inspires a hopeful vision of tomorrow. It resembles works by Snarky Puppy in its freshness and layered arrangements.
It is a technical piece that communicates innovation and sound balance, ideal for the closing of a cycle.
7. Ephemeral Groove Jazz-Funk Dynamic Fast Tempo. The harmony uses tensions typical of the genre that resolve into very contagious melodic choruses.
Rhythm is the protagonist, with constant syncopations that inspire vitality. It is reminiscent of Herbie Hancock's funk-jazz.
The execution is virtuosic but balanced, maintaining a cyclical structure that catches the listener from the first bar.
8. Liquid Silhouettes Smooth Jazz with medium-slow tempo. The melody is supremely elegant, almost vocal, over a velvety harmony.
Inspires sensuality and relaxation. Its instrumentation is minimalist and neat, reminiscent of Lee Ritenour's subtlety.
The rests are very well used, allowing each note of the guitar to have weight. It is a work of great aesthetic and sound balance.
9. Scorpion The boldest song: Jazz Fusion with tinges of Jazz Rock. The tempo is tense and the electric guitar melody is sharp and misterious.
The harmony in minor keys inspires stalking and contained energy. It evokes the intensity of Billy Cobham or John McLaughlin.
It stands out for its rhythmic complexity and a powerful production that highlights the technical aggressiveness of the solos.
10. Whispers of the Breeze Light acoustic jazz with fluid tempo. The melody is ethereal and supported by a clear and open harmony.
Inspires freshness and natural connection. It resembles contemporary European jazz such as ECM. The use of brushes on the battery gives it a smooth and organic texture.
It is the perfect closure: an honest and simple communication that leaves a feeling of relief and purity.

Japanese multi-instrumentalist, composer and progressive rock musician.
Playing many instruments, different harmony, the same passion
This albums is inspired by Canterbury bands such as Soft Machine, Caravan and Hatfield & the North, but he turned those sounds into the new type of rock music. This album has cozy sounds like 60s or 70s but draws the definitely original world of his own.
All tracks are written by himself, but many musicians played on this album. That gives each song quite different colours.
Not only Canterbury or prog rock fan but also all music fans will love this album.

Take Me Back Live from the Gorge is a landmark live album recorded in 2025 during the band’s annual Labor Day weekend at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington state. The weekend marked the first time ever that Dave Matthews Band played Before These Crowded Streets in its entirety in concert.
Take Me Back captures their performance from Saturday, August 30, 2025. The band played a handful of songs, beginning with Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower” and including subtle nods like “You Never Know” and “It Could Happen,” before launching into album opener “Pantala Naga Pampa.” Béla Fleck, who had guested on the album, joined the band for “Last Stop” and “Don’t Drink the Water.” After a long-rumored and rarely played performance of album closer “Spoon,” the band called Jake Simpson onstage to play violin on fan favorites “Satellite” and “Tripping Billies.” The encore closer raised the question everyone was trying to answer after the historic evening: “What Would You Say.”

Jazz Sabbath is a fictional English jazz trio said to be from the late sixties. The band was created by Adam Wakeman, touring keyboard and guitar player for Black Sabbath (2004–2017). Jazz Sabbath plays jazz renditions of Black Sabbath songs; claiming to be the original writers of those songs and accusing Black Sabbath of plagiarism.
The band first appeared in a mockumentary on YouTube in February 2020. In this short film band leader Milton Keanes (Adam Wakeman) was interviewed by actor Robert Powell about the early days of Jazz Sabbath, their cancelled debut album and the alleged theft of their songs by Black Sabbath. This album was later released as an actual album on April 10, 2020.
